  1. It’s funny, I was just thinking back to the first time I watched Buffy (many moons ago, when I was basically the same age with the Buffy character). I loathed and despised ‘boring army bloke’ and literally cheered when he left. I grew to appreciate the character on subsequent rewatchings (he’s quite sweet in a lunkish sort of way), but still – that was a relationship that was going nowhere!

    1. Yeah, I can see that. I don’t really think “Riley hate” seems to be that justified by the narrative, but there does seem to be a lack of the same passion or complexity that you find with Angel or even Spike. Maybe that makes it the healthiest relationship of the three, but does it make for great TV drama?
